About Us

ZIA is a company inspired by the backgrounds of founders Nesma, Eritrean-American, and Farah, Somali-American. 

When creating our first collection, Ode to Our Mothers, we took the traditional dress of diraac, beautifully worn and designed within the Somali culture, and reimagined it in our own modern style. The dress is also worn by people throughout the East African region and Arab Peninsula, more specifically, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Yemen, all countries elegantly accessorizing and fashioning the traditional dress with their own cultural influences. 

Every piece is thoughtfully designed by Nesma and Farah, hoping to honor the people of the East African region through garments and products full of texture, color and culture.
